Congrats, 2009 Scholarship Winners!

Five area students have been awarded scholarships through Glass City Federal's annual scholarship program.

The James F. Halleron Memorial Scholarship was established in 2001to honor former general manager and volunteer board member Jim Halleron, who passed away in December 2000. Once again this year, five, $1,000 scholarships were awarded. The 2009 recipients are:

 

Jill Dentel

Jill is a 2008 graduate of Anthony Wayne High School, and attends the University of Findlay, where she is majoring in biology and pre-veterinary medicine. She is a member of the university’s intercollegiate dressage team (horseback riding), a student representative for the honors committee, and a writer for the pre-vet club’s monthly newsletter. Jill is also the recipient of the Steven Klein Outstanding Pre-Vet Student Award. She currently works at the Hartman Veterinary Clinic in Toledo.

 

Monique Judy

Monique, a 1998 graduate of Reynoldsburg High School in Reynoldsburg, Ohio (Columbus) attends the University of Toledo, where she is studying nursing. This represents a career change for Monique, who holds a Master’s in Social Work from Case Western Reserve University, and currently practices as a child and adolescent therapist at Harbor Behavioral Healthcare. She is a member of the honor society Phi Beta Kappa, and volunteers for Planned Pethood during her free time. Monique has also lived and worked in New York City, where she was a social worker for AIDS patients at Mount Sinai Hospital, and regularly volunteered at community health fairs in East Harlem.

 

Amanda Mannon

Amanda graduated from Clay High School in 2008, and currently attends the University of Toledo, with a major in nursing. She is on the President’s List at UT, and was recently selected to serve on “SWAT” – the Student Wellness and Awareness Team, which presents to incoming students on wellness and health issues. Amanda is also a member of UT’s Varsity Women’s Cross Country and Track teams, and is part of Athletes in Action. She was also a 2008 recipient of the James F. Halleron Memorial Scholarship.

 

Ryan Scott

Ryan is a recent graduate of Genoa Area High School, and plans to attend Wright State University in the fall, where he will study computer engineering. Ryan graduated with a 4.0 grade point average and perfect attendance, and was also valedictorian of his class. He was a member of the National Honor Society. Ryan also played alto saxophone in the Genoa Area High School Marching Band.

 

 

Timothy Sutter

Timothy Sutter, of Ripon, California, recently graduated from Modesto High School, and will attend Carnegie Mellon University in the fall, where he will major in theatre design and production management. He was a four-year member of the International Baccalaureate Program, and was active in the school’s drama program, starring in several plays and serving as stage manager for others. Timothy has also been a long time volunteer at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
